A deployment of bots for all 9,000 employees will make ITC Infotech the first such company in the world to create bots for all its employees. While most companies are undertaking automation and are deploying bots for specific functions catering to the workforce and customers, the difference here is that every employee of the company will get a software bot that will act as a buddy and execute all the mundane tasks.
“We said if you’re going to create digital personas for a client, and that’s the axis that ITC Infotech wants to truly lead with and be the thought leader in then it makes a lot of sense for our employees to also have a digital buddy because each one of them are also performing some activity in a given family,” ITC Infotech CEO Sudip Singh, told ETCIO. “And hence we spoke about digital buddies as the digital bot, which will go and help them do their own tasks. End objective is that our folks are so comfortable in this entire automation world that they can be very confident about presenting it to the clients when the clients come to us.”
“We are finishing off phase 1 and have close to 1000 of our employees being touched by these buddies. It’s been a learning experience for us. We have made our share of mistake as you can imagine in terms of how do you do the time-motion study, how do you really go ahead and take the corner cases in place so that this is becoming effective,” Singh said.
“You can imagine that the labor cost for an individual who is working here in India as compared to say the labor cost for an employee who is working say in a western world, the US or Europe, there is a marked difference. So, the bar or the hurdle for us, just from an “efficiency axis” is much higher here in India as compared to outside India. So, the value proposition that we as ITC Infotech have right from the beginning worked on is not just the efficiency, which I think as I said it’s pretty well established, it’s also about experience and effectiveness,” Singh said.
So, for each of these use cases that the company has created, it has ranked them in a matter of not just efficiency, which is always going to be relevant, but also effectiveness and experience and together the sigma of that really determines whether that particular bot should be implemented or not.
